Is Buying Land A Solid Investment?

Due to the recent economic downturn in the United States, many people are stuffing their money in mattresses for fear of losing even more of it.  Many people lost their shirts when the stock market plummeted last year.  Hundreds of thousands of people are out of jobs and thousands of homes and cars are in foreclosure or have already been foreclosed upon.

Many people who are concerned about their financial future are thinking long and hard about the types of investments that they’re willing to put their money into.  The stock market downturn has left a lot of people with sour stomachs when it comes to investing in stocks.  Many of these investors are looking for other alternatives for their investment portfolios.

Let me suggest to you that buying land is a very solid investment.  Let me tell you why I believe this to be true.  Throughout history, land prices nearly always appreciate over time.  Sure, there are minor fluctuations in land values based upon current economic conditions, but if you look at the values of land over the last hundred years you would see that they appreciated significantly over time.

Right now, the U.S. is in one of the best buyers markets in recent history.  What does this mean for investors?  It means that there are some amazing deals to be had for those who are willing to put in the leg work and find them.  During a buyer’s market, there are many more sellers then there are buyers and this phenomenon drives the prices of homes and land down.  If sellers are to actually find buyers for their properties, they have to competitively price their properties or buyers will simply move on to something that is competitively priced.

During a buyer’s market, the buyer has all the power when it comes to negotiating time.  Savvy negotiators are able to make amazing deals during it us solid buyer’s market.  Those who are smart enough to buy land now while prices are under current fair market value, stand to make significant profits in the very near future and even greater profits should they hold the property for the long-term.
